About The Gann Quarry

The Gann Quarry enjoys the most amazing location, nestling in fields just above the foreshore overlooking Dale Bay on the Gann Estuary. This is a designated SSSI area that teems with unique flora and fauna, a mecca for birdlife. Renovated throughout and furnished in a contemporary style, the main rooms offer panoramic views over the water. The lounge with wooden floor is dual aspect and the large picture windows maximise the wonderful outlook, while a wood burning stove ensures cosy evenings. In the modern fitted kitchen diner, washing up will never be a chore with these ever changing views of the estuary to admire. The paved terrace is an ideal spot to enjoy an alfresco meal on a summer’s evening while the sun slowly sinks, or to simply sit and savour the wonderful view over the waterway.

Walk 200 yards across the field and you are on the foreshore or, if you are feeling adventurous, take a more direct route and use the steps in the cliff down to the beach. Really tucked away, this is a perfect spot for sailors and bird watchers or those who simply enjoy messing around on the water. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is on your doorstep giving excellent opportunities to explore this unique area. You can walk round the coastline to the sandy bay at Lindsway, while a host of other beautiful sandy beaches including West Dale Bay, Marloes and Musslewick are all nearby. There is a popular village pub serving excellent food across the estuary at Dale (approximately 4 miles by road) where there is also a restaurant at the Yacht Club and a variety of water sports to try.

A boat trip from Martins Haven round the islands of Skomer and Grassholm to see the seals, puffins and shearwaters is a must of any trip.

A truly magical holiday location.

Care needed as unfenced drops and proximity to water.

Approached via a narrow tarmac lane, and then on a track across grass fields, which at one point slope steeply. In wet weather access can be difficult, so a vehicle with 4-wheel drive is strongly recommended. If this is your first visit, you are advised to arrive during daylight. The cottage is accessed by a field gate leading to partially gravelled, sloped parking area (ample space for 2 cars). From parking area, 1 step up to slate step (which has 2cm drop on either side down to the concrete path that runs around much of the cottage), then 1 further step up to front door. Entrance porch (tiled floor) leads into the lounge, with slight drop (1cm) down to the wood floor. From lounge, low threshold into kitchen and then continuous, level flooring throughout rest of cottage. Side door from corridor to outside (south aspect) has threshold then 1 step down onto concrete path. From concrete path, 3 steps up to lower terrace, then 1 more step to main terrace, which has unfenced drop down to the concrete path. Kitchen has extensive work tops and 2 wall mounted ovens. Lounge, slightly dim central light is enhanced by 2 floor standing arc lamps. TV and some audio visual equipment can be operated by remote control. There is no landline telephone and mobile phone signal can be variable. External lights by front and side doors (the latter is thermally activated). Access to the beach (mainly rocky) from the garden is 200 metres across the grass field. Guide dogs welcome. No public transport nearby.

We are pleased to have made a returned trip. Our dogs settle here very quickly, and we enjoy watching the birds and the many local walks. We sleep so well here, as the beds are so comfortable! It has been very relaxing sat outside enjoying the scenery in the sunshine. We love it here.

Paul, Anne and Wendy

Had a wonderful week at the cottage! Fabulous location, just perfect. We have enjoyed sitting on the patio looking at the bird life and haven't felt the need to venture far at all. We would happily return here.

Shirley and Martin, Fudge and Pepper (Collies)

Spent a wonderful 24th Wedding Anniversary in this lovely cottage, which has a very special feeling about it. What a superb location, we know the area really well, but this is the most well equipped and practical place we've stayed. Very safe environment for our two collies. Lovely to sit outside in the moonlight listening to the sounds of the birds on the estuary. Have already booked for our 25th!!

Sue, Fran and Billy

A wonderful setting and a very practical, comfortable cottage for our first ever visit to Pembrokeshire. It's been a week of endless discoveries and marvellous coves, beaches and landscapes. Thank you very much.

The Bartlams

We have had a fabulous week. It was apleasure to stay in such a well equipped property with lovely decor. Lovely food at Lawrenny Quay and both the The Castle and St Brides Inn at Little Haven. As usual Marloes was spectacular - check tides before visiting as sea covers beach when in!

The Newmans

Thanks, we have had a wonderful time at this stunning location. We will be back if possible. The cottage is well equipped. Crabbing at Gann Bridge excellent. Sailing at Dale fantastic. Marloes Sands worth a visit.

Rachael, Michael, Anna, Luke and Charlie

Thank you. We had a wonderful peaceful and relaxing week. Can recommend all coastal walks, especially Sandy Haven but do go at low tide. Also enjoyed a look around Solva harbour and it's delightful cafe, great ice creams!! We will be back!

Alan, Deirdre and Missy

Paul and Tina

Excellent week exploring this part of Pembroke Coastal Path. Glorious position with ever changing views (and weather) Well appointed cottage with all we needed! Great variation of bird life in this tidal region.

Sue & Paul

Fantastic cottage, had a really relaxing holiday, will definitely book again.

Abbe & Fiona

In the many years we have visited Pembrokeshire this is the best cottage we have stayed in. The isolation is very refreshing & the area provides many natural gems – not least a visit to Skommer and the endearing Puffins. We hope to return and next time there may be less Welsh Wet and more summer to add to the [?idle?].

Tracey &D… Hopcyns

Had a wonderful time. Lovely cottage with fantastic views! Trip to Little Haven recommended – The Swan for food & the gallery for great sea sketches! We hope to return.

Neville and Siân Morley, Horley, Surney

We have enjoyed a wonderful week in your lovely cottage. We spent hours on the terrace, watching the waders and seabirds through the telescope. We still managed some brilliant walks and a night on Skomer to see the Manx Shear Waters come in – an eerie and magical experience. We had two splendid lunches at the Clock House in Marloes and the landlord at The Brook Innn in St Ishmaels kindly made us some sandwiches, even though he was hosting a large 40th birthday party. We loved Milford Haven and were delighted to find a splendid fish outlet at the Docks. We hope that we may come back.

Ann & David Devlin

Fantastic location and wonderful cottage. It would take some beating. Totally relaxing holiday.

Emma, Piers, Eve & Jessica

Fantastic cottage with everything you could possibly need. We have had a great stay despite some very rainy days. The views and location are great and we hope to return again.

Brind family

Wonderful cottage with lovely views, very well appointed. We all felt very much at home. Weather was mixed, very wet & gale force 8 first couple of days, then a lovely sunny and warm day which allowed us to make use of the patio. Turned wet again but the DVDs, games & books kept us amused. We love this part of the world and have holidayed in this area for the past 25 years but it was great to discover St Ishmaels and in particular The Gann Quarry. Thank you for opening your fantastic home for us to enjoy. Hope to return again soon.

Burton family

We loved the Gann Quarry – best cottage we have stayed in Pembrokeshire (there have been several)! Exactly as we like: remote, private, sea views & beach. Very well presented & equipped. All favourite beaches a short distance: Marloes, Barafundle, Broadhaven South & Freshwater West. Great boat trip around Skomer from St Martins Haven – many puffins, razorbills & guillemots & seals. Thoroughly enjoyed by all specially Peggy-Sue & Jim (JRTs). Will return asap!

Chris, Nic, Tom Ice & Bear
